Sinus Lift

Sinuslift – Anheben des Kieferhöhlenbodens zur Implantation

Sinus Lift in Pinneberg: Bone Augmentation in the Upper Jaw for Stable Implants

The sinus lift, also known as sinus floor elevation, is a surgical method used to build up bone in the lateral upper jaw in a targeted way. In our specialised practice for oral surgery and implantology in Pinneberg, we regularly perform this procedure so that implants can be placed securely even with limited bone height. Our many years of experience, minimally invasive techniques, and high-quality materials ensure optimal results and the highest possible patient satisfaction.

Why is a sinus lift necessary?

A sinus lift is necessary when the jawbone in the upper jaw does not have enough volume to securely and permanently anchor a dental implant. After the loss of a tooth, the bone in this area often shrinks while the sinus cavity expands downward. A sinus lift ensures that sufficient stable bone is restored to support an implant long-term.

When do we recommend the procedure?

We recommend a sinus lift in cases of:

  • Advanced bone loss in the upper jaw
  • Planned implants in the area of the molars
  • Insufficient bone volume after prolonged tooth loss
  • Greatly enlarged sinus cavity, making implant placement more difficult

The different techniques: Internal and external sinus lift

Internal sinus lift (closed technique)

With the internal sinus lift, we use a minimally invasive method that is particularly gentle for the patient. The procedure is carried out directly through the planned implant site. We gently lift the membrane of the sinus cavity and fill the resulting space with bone material. This method often allows us to place the implant in the same procedure. Patients benefit from fewer symptoms, faster healing, and shorter recovery times.

External sinus lift (open technique)

In cases of greater bone loss, we use the external sinus lift. Here, a small lateral opening is made in the jawbone, and the sinus membrane is lifted. The resulting cavity is then carefully filled with bone material and the access point is closed. This method allows for the placement of larger amounts of bone material and is especially reliable when bone volume is significantly reduced. However, the external sinus lift requires a somewhat longer healing phase.

Which materials do we use for bone augmentation?

In our practice, we use both the patient’s own bone and special bone substitute materials. We harvest the patient’s own bone during the procedure from an area close to the surgical site to minimise strain. Often, we combine this bone with proven bone substitute material to ensure optimal stability and volume build-up.In addition, we use the innovative PRP technology (platelet-rich plasma). We obtain PRP from the patient’s own blood and mix it with the bone material. This promotes bone healing, reduces the risk of infection, and significantly speeds up regeneration.

Modern diagnostics and precise planning

To plan each sinus lift with precision, we use state-of-the-art 3D X-ray technology (digital volume tomography, DVT). This method allows us to tailor the procedure individually, minimise risks, and optimise the treatment outcome.During surgery, we also use microsurgical techniques such as magnifying glasses or microscopes to ensure the highest precision. Additionally, we apply ultrasound-based surgical methods (piezosurgery), which are particularly gentle on the sensitive sinus membrane, enabling virtually bloodless work and significantly reducing postoperative discomfort.

Comfortable treatment and close personal care

Our procedures are usually performed under local anaesthesia. For particularly anxious patients or more extensive treatments, we also offer sedation (twilight sleep) to ensure maximum comfort. Throughout the entire treatment process, our experienced team accompanies you with attentiveness and professionalism.

After the procedure, we place great emphasis on thorough and continuous follow-up care. Regular check-ups ensure proper healing and optimise the long-term stability of the augmented bone.
